About Peripheral Stenting

Peripheral Stenting Q & A

What is a Peripheral Stent?

Peripheral stents are small tubular metal scaffolds that can be inserted in the peripheral vessels to treat narrowing or blockage within arteries or veins, resulting in improved blood flow. Stents are often composed of a nitinol base and may be plain, drug-coated, or covered with a prosthetic material. In most cases, a balloon (angioplasty) is used first to flatten the blockage against the walls of the vessel so the stent can open up better. You will be given a medicine to help you relax during the procedure. Although you will be awake, you will be very sleepy and relaxed.

What Conditions Might Need a Peripheral Stent?

  • Renal Artery Stenosis

  • PAD

  • Carotid Artery Disease
